August 2025 – End of month round up

8th September 2025

August 2025 Update

Big Give Christmas Challenge

August was all about raising awareness for our Big Give Christmas Campaign. By the end of the month, we had already secured £3,700 in pledges. These pledges are promises to donate, which will be unlocked in December during a one-week window.

Every £1 given by the public in December will be matched by £1 from our pledge pot – doubling the impact of every donation.

All funds raised will go towards our ambitious project: building a new Food Bank Hub in Holyhead. The Hub will be a safe and welcoming space where people can not only collect food parcels but also sit down for a cuppa, share experiences, and access further support. We want the Hub to be stigma-free, friendly, and part of a “helping hand up.”

What’s Been Happening

  • 📦 156 vouchers fulfilled, supporting 309 people (including 186 children)

  • 🏠 30 new households registered who had never used the food bank before

  • 🍏 142 kg of fruit distributed at community and family events over the summer holidays, including two family days organised by Môn Actif

  • 🛍️ Thanks to Rachel at Morrisons, 110 pre-packed green bags of food and toiletries were donated during August

  • 🥕 A big thank you also to Holyhead Lidl, who continued to provide fresh fruit and veg over the summer, helping us support local families with healthy snacks

In the News

Looking at our historical referral data:

  • 2022 – 2,385 referrals, 455 new households, 72% single adults/parents

  • 2023 – 2,902 referrals, 482 new households, 70% single adults/parents

  • 2024 – 2,461 referrals, 441 new households, 78% single adults/parents

The majority of households we support are single adults. Research highlights that isolation, the impact of lockdown on mental health, the cost-of-living crisis, and overstretched services are all contributing factors.
