🌟 Anglesey Food Bank – September 2025 Update

Hunger in Wales: New Report from the Trussell Trust

Trussell released its latest report, Hunger in the UK 2025, on 10th September – a powerful reminder of the challenges many people still face.

The Hunger in Wales section highlights that:

“The risk of hunger, and being forced to turn to food banks, remains stubbornly higher for some groups of people. Disabled people, families with children, and renters are all more likely to face hunger than others.”
“There has been no real progress on food insecurity in Wales since our last report published in 2023.”
“We are at risk of seeing severe hardship becoming normalised in communities across Wales.”

Border Force Donation

🚛 On 23rd September, officers from Border Force delivered a generous donation of 221.5kgs of food and toiletries to our Holyhead warehouse.
The items were collected by staff and brought in personally. It was great to welcome the team, show them how our food bank operates, and share our plans for the new Food Bank Hub launching next year.

Tesco Food Drive – Huge Success!

🛒 Thank you to every shopper who donated during our two-day Tesco food drive on 25th and 26th September.
A special thank you also to our Trustees and Volunteers who ran the donation tables for both days.
Together, you helped collect 573.1kgs of food and £281.93 in cash donations.
👏 What an amazing show of community support!

What’s Been Happening

📦 In September, Anglesey Food Bank fulfilled 159 vouchers, providing food for 336 people, including 131 children.
🏠 We also registered 38 new households who had never used the food bank before.

Although donations of fruit and vegetables have now slowed, we want to say a massive diolch enfawr to Lidl and other supermarkets who supported our Fruit for Schools initiative throughout 2025.

Over the year, we provided a total of 1,185 kg of fruit to schools and summer events – the equivalent of around 14,800 portions! 🍏

Volunteer & Community Shout-Out

📅 Save the Date: The National Tesco Food Drive will take place at Holyhead Tesco on 27th, 28th & 29th November.
This event supports both Trussell Trust and FareShare, encouraging shoppers to buy an extra item or two and donate it on their way out.

💡 We’ll also be encouraging supporters to consider pledging a donation to the Big Give Christmas Challenge – helping us match-fund food donations with long-term support for our new Hub.

Looking Ahead

🗓️ In early 2026, we’ll be running another ad hoc local food collection at Holyhead Tesco – dates to be confirmed in December.
