October 2025 – End of month round up

1st November 2025

🍂 Harvest Festival Donations – A huge boost!

A heartfelt diolch / thank you to all the Anglesey schools who donated food during their Harvest Festival activities this year.

Between 20th – 24th October, our stock levels received a much-needed lift, and we are incredibly grateful to:

  • Ysgol Pentraeth
  • Ysgol Llanfair PG
  • Ysgol Sefydledig Caergeiliog Foundation School
  • Ysgol Gynradd Llanfairpwll (thank you for allowing us to share your photo!)

 📸 Ysgol Gynradd Llanfairpwll

In total, we received 3,135 kg of food from supporters in October — enabling us to distribute 3,613 kg of emergency food parcels across the island.

🙏 Anonymous donation – 375.6 kg in one day!

We would also like to extend a special diolch to the anonymous donors who delivered an incredible 375.6 kg of food in a single day.

With supermarkets increasingly limiting the quantities customers can purchase, donations like this help us restock shelves far more quickly than would otherwise be possible.

💪 Community champions

Fitness with Foxy

Another amazing monthly contribution — 45.4 kg of food donated through their “bring a tin” fitness sessions. Thank you for your continued support!

Morrisons Holyhead – Green Bag Scheme

Rachel and the team have continued to fill green bags with essentials from our “running short” list.
In October we received:
🛍️ 155 pre-packed bags

Poetry, Quizzes & Community Kindness

  • Rhys Trimble, poet and bard, donated £139.62 and visited the warehouse for a brief tour.
  • Bronny (the quiz master) at Farrels raised £265 through ‘guess the number of sweets’ competition.
  • A huge Diolch yn fawr iawn to everyone involved!

Further Thanks

  • Lôn-y-Felin Presbyterian Chapel, Llangefni – for their Thanksgiving service donation.
  • North Wales Freemasons’ Charity – for a generous £300 grant towards general costs.
  • Llanddona Community – for 73.4 kg of food plus a financial contribution. Thank you for your ongoing support!

📦 What’s been happening?

In October, we:

  • Fulfilled 177 vouchers, supporting:
    • 223 adults
    • 109 children
  • Registered 34 new households who had never used the food bank before.

Top 4 Reasons for Needing Emergency Food (October):

  1. Priority Debt – 19%
  2. Unexpected Costs – 17%
  3. Waiting on Benefit Payments – 12%
  4. Insecurely Housed – 11%
(Includes individuals who are homeless, in emergency accommodation, or at risk of losing their home.)

🍎 Impact of School Harvest Festival donations

Schoolchildren on Anglesey contributed around 18% of all food received in October.

A typical emergency food parcel for one person weighs 12–13 kg and provides six days of food.
Even during a month where more food was sent out than came in, schools contributed the equivalent of nearly 2 kg of food per person supported across the island.

Diolch yn fawr iawn to all the pupils, staff and families involved!

🙌 Volunteer & community shout-out

National Tesco Food Drive – 27–29 November

Held at Tesco Holyhead, supporting both Trussell and FareShare.
Shoppers will be encouraged to buy an extra item or two and donate on their way out.

📣 Trussell campaign – Two-Child Limit

Trussell is calling for the Government to end the Two-Child Limit, a policy that restricts financial support to the first two children in a household.

The charity highlights that this rule is pushing many families, especially those already struggling, into deeper hardship, increasing the risk of hunger and food bank use.

Key messages include:

  • Removing the Two-Child Limit
  • Highlighting that 14 million people faced hunger last year
  • Emphasising the need for structural change to end child hardship

🔭 Looking ahead

  • As we approach the end of the year, we’re preparing for one of our biggest opportunities to strengthen support across Anglesey — the Big Give Christmas Challenge, running 2nd–9th December. Every donation made during this week will be match funded, helping us get closer to building the new Food Bank Hub in Holyhead 💚
