January 2026 – Start of year round-up

7th January 2026

💚 A New Year, Continued Need

As we move into 2026, many households across Anglesey are facing a difficult start to the year. January is often one of the toughest months, with higher bills, reduced income, and the financial pressures left behind after Christmas.

At Anglesey Foodbank, our focus remains on offering practical support with dignity, compassion and care — and on working with partners to help people move forward, not just get through crisis.

🎄 Looking Back: November & December Highlights

The final months of 2025 saw an incredible outpouring of community support, helping us meet increased demand over the winter period.

Big Give Christmas Challenge

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we raised an amazing £6,176.90 through the Big Give Christmas Challenge.

This has brought us one important step closer to creating The Hub — Holyhead’s first social supermarket and community support space.

The Hub will help people:

  • access affordable food in a dignified way
  • receive advice and guidance
  • feel welcomed and supported
  • take steps toward longer-term stability

We’d like to say a heartfelt diolch yn fawr to everyone who donated, shared our appeal, or helped spread the word.

🛒 Community Collections & Donations

The final months of 2025 saw an incredible level of generosity from churches, schools, businesses and individuals across Anglesey. These donations played a vital role in helping us meet increased demand over the winter period.

Church Harvest Donations

Thank you to Aberffraw & Llangadwaladr Churches, who together donated 48.3 kg of food following their Harvest collections.

Reverse Advent – Schools Across Anglesey

For several years, schools in Holyhead and across Anglesey have taken part in the Reverse Advent Christmas donation, where pupils bring in an item of food for the Foodbank.

In 2025, this initiative brought in 466.2 kg of food, donated by school children — nearly 40% more than in 2024.

Lagan Aviation and Infrastructure

Currently working on the runway at RAF Valley, Lagan Aviation and Infrastructure donated 373.6 kg of supplies to support our emergency food parcels.

Thank you to everyone involved for such a generous contribution.

🤝 Volunteer Shout-Out & Thanks

Our volunteers are at the heart of Anglesey Foodbank, and we’d like to say a special thank you to everyone who supported us over the winter period.

Special Thanks – Van Drivers

A huge thank you to Colm and Craig from Sodexo, who volunteered their time to drive our delivery van and help ensure food parcels reached people safely and on time.
Their support made a real difference during a particularly busy period.

From warehouse sorting and packing, to driving deliveries and supporting supermarket collections — our volunteers help make everything possible.

If you’re considering volunteering in 2026, we’d love to hear from you.

🤝 Volunteers: The Heart of Our Service

From warehouse sorting and food packing, to driving deliveries and supporting collections — our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do.

As we move further into 2026, we will continue to need volunteer support as our services grow, especially as we develop plans for The Hub.

Thank you to everyone who gives their time to support our community.

💬 A Gentle Reminder

January can feel overwhelming. If you or someone you know is struggling, please remember:

  • asking for help is okay
  • food support is part of wellbeing
  • Anglesey Foodbank is here to help

Support is available, and no one should feel alone.

🔭 Looking Ahead

Over the coming months we will:

  • continue planning and development of The Hub
  • organise further local food collections
  • strengthen partnerships with local businesses and organisations
  • focus on early support and dignity-led services

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who continues to help and support us.

💚 Thank You

To our donors, volunteers, partners and supporters — thank you.
Your kindness helps ensure Anglesey Foodbank remains a place of support, dignity and community for those who need it most.
